Championships this week!

In ultimate grind news on June 20, 2011 at 6:15 am

I’m sure you’re all anxiously anticipating the championships at the end of the week. Many of you have worked very hard this season, and the championships is when it will all pay off!

Remember, it’s all about competing WITH your teammates…if you can do more push-ups, crunches, hold a bridge longer than you could day 1, then you win!

Here’s the schedule for the championships:

We’ll start with a brief team warm-up. Nothing too extreme…but we don’t want to go into the Ultimate Grind Championships cold!

There will be 2 types of exercises; “action exercises” and “stability exercises”

Action exercises score points for your team, but they will only count if your teammate is simultaneously doing their stability exercise. For example…when you are doing your ice-skaters, your teammate will be holding a plank…and when you are doing your bent rows, your teammate will be doing continuous “high knees.” Now for the official line-up:

1) Burpees (1-leg Y)- 100 total
2) Jack Knife Crunches (bridge) - 100 total
3) Iceskaters (plank)- 100 total
4) Pushups (cobra)- 100 total
5) Crunches (hold low squat)- 100 total
6) Bent Rows (non-stop high knees)-100 total
7) Mountain Climbers (side plank)-100 total
8) Squat Press (1-leg A)- 100 total

Don’t let the competitiveness of all this psych you out….it will be fun and we’re all in it together! Good luck!

For those of you interested, here’s a Ultimate Grind Highlight Video from our early days! (It’s less competitive now, but just as fun!)

First Workout of a New Season

In ultimate grind news on February 21, 2011 at 4:02 pm

This week we’ll being a new 6-week Ultimate Grind Season. We’ve got a smaller group, which is typical for February…people have forgotten about their new years resolutions and the summer seems a million miles away. That being said, the “few and the proud” will be the first to reap the benefits of the Ultimate Grind’s unique personalized group fitness program.

What to expect day 1:

Our assessment will be more elaborate, detailed and intense (if you want it to be) than ever before. We’ll be testing our strength, balance, cardiovascular capacity, body alignment and exercise form. These assessments will lay the foundation for everything we will do over the next 6 weeks.

For those about to Grind….I solute you!*

Ultimate Grind teams up with Big Brothers & Big Sisters

In ultimate grind news on July 24, 2010 at 7:07 pm

Coach Sweat with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters

At 10 o’clock this morning the Big Brothers & Big Sisters met Coach Sweat at Moakley Field in South Boston.  Coach Sweat made 3 promises at the beginning of the workout:

1) That everybody would leave stronger than they were when they got there.

2) That they would all have fun.

3) That the Ultimate Grind would not end today.

And all 3 promises were kept.  The little brother and sisters learned how to use their strongest muscle groups to perform exercises; we had a blast doing all of our relays and partner exercises; and the group left with the “Ultimate Grind Challenge”….a challenge the will continue until the end of September!

“What is the Ultimate Grind Challenge?” you ask.

Here it is:

Jog around the track with your Big Brother or Big Sister

Do 100 band rows between your and your Big.

Do 100 push ups between you and your Big.

Do 100 squats between you and your Big.

Jog around the track again.

Time how long this takes…..then do it again at the end of September and see if you can do it faster!

What a Workout!

In ultimate grind news on July 23, 2010 at 4:04 pm

Running's never been so tough!

After all the votes were tallied it was still all tied up between the “Human Torch” workout and the classic partner workout, so we decided to do half and half.  For the first half of the workout we did the 2 Human Torch circuits.  The second half of the workout was all about partner exercises.  I had a blast and it seemed like everyone else did too.  See you all next season!

Voting for tomorrow’s workout is tied up!

The votes for tomorrow’s “peoples’ choice” workout is all tied up….between “partner relays” and the “Human Torch” workout.  Just so you know what the Human Torch workout entails, here it is…explained in detail:

Human Torch Workout

Whatever you Ultimate Grinders decide, it’s going to be a great workout! See you tomorrow!

Day 1 will involve a total fitness assessment…even for you veterans.  Try and get there 5 minutes early, we’ve got a lot to accomplish.  All you’ll need is a bottle of water and some comfortable exercise clothes.  We’ll provide everything else you need.  Get ready!

Celebration of Excellence

In ultimate grind news on July 12, 2010 at 1:32 am

I’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate one of the people who has made the Ultimate Grind what it is today. Rebecca was one of the finalists of the original Ultimate Grind…back in the days when Ultimate Grinders would be forced to army crawl on top of sheets of ice and run a mile though a foot of snow…wow, we were crazy back then!

This is a picture of Rebecca as she was promoting the new season starting July 26th.

2 New Workouts, 2 Peoples’ Choice Workouts

In ultimate grind news on July 7, 2010 at 6:55 pm

We didn’t get where we are today by doing the exact same workout every day!

That being said, people tend to get anxious if we mix it up too much.

So, here’s my compromise…our next 4 workouts will feature 2 innovative, never before done, workouts, and 2 classic Ultimate Grind workouts.

Our next 2 Tuesday Morning Metabolic Powerblasts we will do my new “Yogaflex” workout and my new “Kettlebell Classic” workout. These workouts will new completely new, and a different type of challenge than what we’ve faced before.

Our next 2 Friday MMPB’s will be “peoples’ choice workouts. Meaning YOU will choose…democratically…here are your possible workouts:

a) Tabita Circuits
b) Metabolic Density Training
c) Partner Relays
d) Power/Stability Supersets

Exercise your right to vote by emailing me at losefatnotmuscle@gmail.com!

The Most Exciting Championship Finish Ever!

In ultimate grind news on July 2, 2010 at 12:00 pm

I can’t believe it!…It’s never happened before!….The Ultimate Grind Championships came down to sudden death overtime!…Not only that…only 1 overtime leap-frog separated the runners up from the champions!

I’d like to congratulate all of the participants in this seasons Ultimate Grind, but in the end there could only be one championship team…and the winners of this seasons Ultimate Grind Championships were….Stara and Camille! Congratulations!
